Tim's blog - July 2008

I'm not claiming to be a local celebrity (any complaints to my agent please) but have had some very nice requests to be interviewed by local press and even a couple of telly enquiries (ok so I don't have an agent but I do have a blog so that must count for something). As you may have gathered from my last blog, I could talk about food for a very long time and really enjoyed filming the latest River Cottage series, but am never happier than when I am in the kitchen being busy. And it has been buzzing down here at the store and canteen! I have been making the most of the spring bounty and tieing in our menu with the recipes created and cooked on our show. At the moment we are doing a roaring trade with the New Season Wet Garlic Bhaji's and the Gooseberry Granita as shown on show 4. I have also been completely overexcited by the local fresh fish and shellfish being delivered to the canteen and the sweetest strawberry red strawberries. So many wonderful things this season that the challenge is to squeeze them all on the menu!
We had a mad Saturday on the day of the Spring into Summer Fair as many of those visiting Park Farm also came to see us too.  We stocked up on local sausages for breakfast and scones for delicious cream teas. Thank you to all those who came by and for your great comments. Lots of feedback on how lovely the store is, how fantastic the selection of good quality local products and plants...ok you get the picture!
We are changing our opening hours to cope with the summer visitor demand. I also want to capture every possible eating moment from breakfast, elevenses, light lunch, large lunch, cream tea and dinner. I think that just about covers it but do let me know if I have missed anything! As you know we are passionate about our local producers and like to invite them down to the store to meet our customers and give more background on who they are and what they do. My only proviso is that they also provide tasters - yum! This month we are expecting Luscombe drinks, Godminster cheese and vodka, Trealy Farm charcuterie and Westcombe Dairy cream to join us on forthcoming Thursdays and Saturdays.Am also in the early planning stages for a kids event at Axminster to herald the summer holiday arrival so keep an eye out for more on that over the next couple of weeks. For full details on opening hours, canteen booking and producers diary check out our  Store and Canteen page.
Right, am off to see a man about a lobster and take a couple of hours off before tonight's service. Even local celebrities have to put their feet up now and again...
