Walk on the Wildside - A Wild Food Feast in Spring

"Wild food comes with a unique guarantee: unlike almost every kind of cultivated food, it has not been messed about with by people. It is pure, natural, and untampered with." Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall.

Join our foraging expert John Wright for a feast of wild foods gathered from the forests, beaches and hedgerows of Dorset and Devon. John, who leads our Edible Seashore and Mushroom Foraging courses, will spend the day collecting wild ingredients before bringing them back to River Cottage HQ, where our team of chefs will transform them into a delicious meal for you.

On arrival at 6pm, you will be welcomed with a glass of homemade elderflower cordial and canapés made with wild ingredients. John will then give a talk on the foods he has collected for your supper. The natural larder is overflowing with good things at this time of year and his haul might include seabeet, seaweed, comfrey and watercress, as well as elderflower, rocket, marsh samphire and alexanders. There could be pigeon, rabbit, venison, squirrel or shellfish too, and maybe even some wild mushrooms.

John will hand over to the River Cottage chefs who will demonstrate some recipes using wild ingredients, which you can then sit down to enjoy as part of your four-course set menu. At the end of the evening, you'll be able to take away recipes and tips on how to forage yourself (including things to avoid!).

Time: 6pm - 10.45pm
