Star Gazing

stars

Star gazing returns once more to River Cottage Festival on Saturday night.

Hugely popular, you have the chance to look through professional telescopes to see the stars and planets above. Last year we saw a distinct halo around the nearly full Moon, complete with a rare Moondog (paraselene) close to Mars. Saturn with its rings and Jupiter were other highlights of the night sky.

Bob Mizon, Colin Besant and Steve Tonkin are members of the Wessex Astronomical Society, which meets in Wimborne, Dorset on the first Tuesday of every month. The Society hosts public stargazing in many places, including the Cranborne Chase AONB, Durlston Country Park and various events and festivals.
