‘It really is the most dreamy spot to stay. The only downside is it’s not easy to leave behind, definitely one of those places you need a couple of nights to settle in and fully soak up!’

FAQs

Here, you’ll find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions. If you can’t find the information you’re looking for, please feel free to get in touch.

Self check-in is from 3 – 6 PM. Parking is available in the main car park, where you can either walk to your stay or, if you let us know in advance, we’ll arrange for someone to give you and your party a lift in our Land Rovers. If you’re driving a 4×4 or another suitable vehicle, you’re welcome to take the track down to the tractor turning circle to park. (All details will be in your booking confirmation.)

Please note, the track is uneven and narrow, so be mindful of other vehicles coming up.

If you require a later arrival, please contact us ahead of your booking so we’re aware. Similarly, if you need a lift down the hill, we’ll need to ensure someone is available to assist you, so please give us as much notice as possible. We will always ensure a smooth arrival.

Check out is by 10am.

You and your children are welcome to stay in our Gardener’s Cottage or in our Farmhouse if all rooms are booked by your group. For the comfort of other guests in the Farmhouse, we are unable to accommodate children if only 1 or 2 rooms are booked.

Please note, our Cabin is not suitable for children.

Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted on site, as we are a working farm.

A selection of teas and coffee will be available for you to enjoy. We also offer an extensive drinks menu.

Wake up to the scent of brewing coffee and toasting sourdough.

In your accommodation, you can expect:

Depending on the date of your visit, you may be able to join one of our ticketed dining events.

For whole farmhouse bookings and celebrations, you might like to consider our private dining option.

You are also welcome to use the kitchen facilities within your accommodation to prepare your own evening meal. There is a farm shop a few miles away, along with supermarkets and independent shops in the neighbouring towns.

If these options aren’t suitable, there are many eateries in the nearby towns, ranging from fish and chips to fine dining and everything in between!

Please find our terms and conditions summarised below:

  • More than 28 days’ notice: We can transfer your booking to a new date or issue a voucher without a fee.
  • Between 7-28 days’ notice: A £25.00 admin fee will apply for transferring your booking to a new date or issuing a voucher.
  • Less than 7 days’ notice: We can only complete a name change on the booking.

We strongly advise all guests to take out appropriate insurance upon booking to cover the cost in case of last-minute cancellations.

We want our guests to enjoy the tranquility of the farm, considering the Farmhouse a sanctuary from the outside world. Therefore, we do not have televisions in the bedrooms. We offer free Wi-Fi; however, please be aware that due to our location, the signal can be weak and may not be suitable for streaming video.

We provide guests with towels, bathrobes, and bed linen. Bathrooms are stocked with Bramley toiletries for a luxurious touch.

If your stay is longer than one night and you would like your room turned around, please let us know at check-in.

The Cabin Facilities

The Planted Cabin is designed for one or two people seeking a cozy, off-grid retreat. The simple yet wonderfully comfortable furnishings include a double bed, an armchair, a dining table and chairs, a small kitchenette, and a log burner — all crafted by sustainable artisan designers.

Just a stone’s throw from the cabin, you’ll find the eco-friendly compostable toilet and an adjacent cold-water outdoor shower facility. Experience the scientifically proven health benefits of cold-water immersion every morning. Please note, there is no hot water in the outdoor shower.

What to Bring

  • Refillable cup for coffee in the morning at the Kitchen & Store
  • Torches (it’s very dark in rural Devon)
  • Wellies and flip-flops (flip-flops for getting to and from the shower unit, and wellies because it’s the countryside!)
  • Weather-appropriate clothing
  • Walking boots or other sturdy footwear

Yes, you are very welcome to explore the farm! However, please note that we are a working farm with livestock, so we kindly ask that you close all gates behind you. Additionally, please refrain from picking food from the gardens unless accompanied by one of our gardeners.

A team member will be available to assist you during check-in and check-out. Typically, someone is on-site between 9 AM and 7 PM. If no team member is present, you will be provided with a contact number for emergencies.

You can find a list of local taxi companies HERE.

We recommend booking taxis in advance, as they can fill up quickly.

If you’re unable to stay with us at River Cottage HQ, you can stay with one of our other lovely nearby accommodation providers, you can find them HERE
