Create Festive Wreaths at River Cottage Cookery School

Join us for a magical day of festive creativity at River Cottage with our Christmas Wreath Making course, guided by local flower grower and florist Emma Dixon of Meadowsweet Flowers and Floristry.

Your day begins with expert tuition on crafting two beautiful Christmas wreaths, perfect for bringing seasonal cheer into your home. Along the way, you’ll pick up practical floristry tips and creative ideas to make your decorations truly unique.

We provide all materials, from holly, berries, and ivy to seed heads, feathers, and ribbon. Enjoy a hearty seasonal lunch, warming hot drinks, and time to explore River Cottage HQ in its stunning midwinter setting. This hands-on course will leave you inspired, festive, and ready to showcase your own seasonal creations at home.

ARRIVE

If you choose to walk, enjoy a 10–15 minute stroll from the car park along scenic pathways to the farm, taking in the stunning valley views. A Land Rover lift is available in poor weather or if you prefer not to walk. Once at the cookery school, meet your host and start the day with tea, coffee, and freshly baked treats.

DEMO Session

Emma will take you through her top tips for Christmas decorations, with crafty ideas to deck your halls in style.

Practical session

Next, time to make your Christmas wreaths! Emma will guide you through the traditional techniques using holly, berries, ivy, seed heads, ribbon and added sparkle. While you work we’ll serve a mulled drink to warm your cockles.

LUNCH

Food is always the focus at River Cottage, and next you’ll tuck into a two-course lunch of local, seasonal fare prepared by the River Cottage chefs.

Practical session

After lunch you'll get underway with your hazel wreath, a less traditional style of wreath, but equally as elegant. This lighter style of wreath is ideal for hanging indoors or out, adding beauty and festive cheer to your home.

DEPARTURE

Enjoy plenty of time to chat with the wreath makers and River Cottage team, swap tips and stories, and leave at 5pm proudly carrying your handmade Christmas wreaths.
