Learn Easter Baking Skills at River Cottage Cookery School

Spend the day celebrating the baked goods of spring with our hands-on Easter Baking course, guided by our professional baker.

You’ll master soft, spiced hot cross buns, classic lemon-scented Easter biscuits, and beautifully tempered chocolate bon-bons with smooth seasonal ganache. Enjoy a demonstration of elegant choux pastry in a Paris-Brest showstopper, and bake your own moist carrot cake loaf to finish.

Along the way, you’ll develop skills in enriched doughs, biscuit making, chocolate tempering, choux pastry and cake baking — using luxury ingredients throughout.

Leave with a stunning selection of handmade Easter treats and the confidence to recreate them at home.

Is this course suitable for me? This course isn’t suitable for those with dairy or gluten intolerances. We recommend this course for participants aged 12 and up. Under-16s must be accompanied by a paying adult. These guidelines are in place to ensure the safety, comfort, and enjoyment of all our guests. ARRIVE

If you choose to walk, enjoy a 10–15 minute stroll from the car park along scenic pathways to the farm, taking in the stunning valley views. A Land Rover lift is available in poor weather or if you prefer not to walk. Once at the cookery school, meet your host and start the day with tea, coffee, and freshly baked treats.

SESSION ONE

Begin by diving straight in and creating the dough for a classic Hot Cross Bun - you'll come back to this throughout the day

SESSION TWO

Next you'll learn how to make the perfect shortbread ready to shape and bake into Easter Biscuits

SESSION THREE

Onto the bon bons as you discover the art of tempering chocolate and making the perfect ganache

LUNCH

Tuck into a delicious seasonal lunch prepared by the River Cottage chefs.

SESSION FOUR

Next, you'll watch as Choux Pastry is turned into a show stopping Paris-Brest.

SESSION FIVE

Next, bake a classic teatime treat, a moist, spiced carrot cake

SESSION SIX

To finish, you'll bake your Hot Cross Buns ready to take home and share with family and friends.

DEPARTURE

There will be plenty of time to chat with fellow bakers and the River Cottage team, sharing tips and stories, before heading back up the hill for 5pm with your freshly baked Easter goods in hand.
