Cook and Dine at River Cottage

Spend a memorable afternoon and evening at River Cottage, where our cookery school and working farm combine for the ultimate hands-on food experience.

Your day begins with a hot drink and a light bite before rolling up your sleeves to make our signature farmhouse loaf. From there, you’ll head outdoors for a guided farm tour, discovering our organic growing methods and commitment to ethical, seasonal food.

Back in the kitchen, you’ll create your own wood-fired pizza, topping it with the season’s finest vegetables and cheeses, accompanied by a glass of fizz. The day finishes with a seasonal cocktail and a three-course feast in our stunning dining space, featuring the starter you prepared and dishes crafted from the very ingredients you’ve explored throughout the day.

This immersive cook and dine experience will leave you inspired, skilled, and ready to bring the best of River Cottage into your own kitchen, all while enjoying the freshest seasonal produce straight from our farm.

Is this course suitable for me?  This course isn’t suitable for all allergies and dietary requirements. However, it is suitable for vegetarians. We do offer other courses that cater to gluten-free and vegan diets. We recommend this course for participants aged 12 and up. Under-16s must be accompanied by a paying adult. These guidelines are in place to ensure the safety, comfort, and enjoyment of all our guests. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or need more information.

ARRIVE AT RIVER COTTAGE

If you choose to walk, enjoy a 10–15 minute stroll from the car park along scenic pathways to the farm, taking in the stunning valley views. A Land Rover lift is available in poor weather or if you prefer not to walk. Once at the cookery school, meet your host and start the day with tea, coffee, and freshly baked treats.

SESSION ONE

Step into the cookery school and start crafting your bread dough alongside your expert River Cottage chef for the day.

SESSION TWO

Next, you’ll head out into the grounds with a River Cottage gardener, hand-picking fresh vegetables for your dinner. Afterward, you’ll plant seeds to take home, using all the tips and tricks shared by our expert garden team to help them thrive.

SESSION THREE

After a tour of the farm, you’ll use part of your dough to craft mouthwatering wood-fired pizzas, perfect for a tasty snack before the main event. Then, take a well-deserved break!

SESSION FOUR

Next, dive into the bread-making session, where our chefs will share expert tips on shaping and baking. With our classic River Cottage farmhouse bread recipe, you’ll be creating perfect, home-baked loaves every time.

SESSION FIVE

After your break, we’ll pour you a glass of fizz, and you’ll get hands-on creating your starter, picking up new tips and techniques from your expert River Cottage chef.

PRE-DINNER COCKTAIL

Now, sit back and relax as the River Cottage team whips up a specially crafted seasonal cocktail just for you.

DINNER

You’ll be treated to three courses of fantastic local and seasonal produce, much of it grown or reared on our farm, planned on the day to showcase the freshest and the best, and featuring the starter you helped prepare earlier.

DEPARTURE

There will be plenty of time to chat with fellow bakers and the River Cottage team before you head back up the hill at 9pm, proudly carrying your River Cottage loaf, seed tray, and gardener’s info pack to take home.
