A Delicious Introduction to Cooking the River Cottage Way

Join us for a one-day cookery course where you’ll master a range of cooking techniques, including bread, fish, meat, and seasonal vegetables. This course is the perfect introduction to the River Cottage approach, giving you recipes and skills to inspire your cooking at home.

Whether you’re a beginner or looking to build on existing skills, this course is for you. Your chef tutor will guide you through each dish in a hands-on, small-group setting of just ten people, ensuring personalised support.

Many of the ingredients come from our River Cottage Kitchen Garden and nearby farms, allowing you to learn about sustainable, seasonal eating and how it enhances flavour.

By the end of the day, you’ll have baked bread, cooked a vegetable, fish, and meat dish, plus a delicious pudding. You’ll even critique your creations over lunch, amazed by how much you’ve learned in one day.

Is this course suitable for me?  Due to the varied content, this course isn’t suitable for those with allergies or specific dietary requirements. However, we do offer other courses that cater to gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan diets. We recommend this course for participants aged 12 and up. Under-16s must be accompanied by a paying adult. MAKE YOURSELF AT HOME

You’ll meet your host and begin the day with a warm welcome, enjoying tea, coffee, and freshly baked treats straight from the kitchen.

SESSION ONE

Dive right in by learning the art of bread-making as you create your very own farmhouse dough. Throughout the day, you’ll have the chance to knead, shape, and bake your loaves to perfection.

SESSION TWO

We wouldn’t be River Cottage if we didn’t grow a variety of incredible vegetables here on the farm. Discover our passion for seasonal produce as you’re guided through preparing your first dish of the day, highlighting the freshest ingredients straight from our garden.

SESSION THREE

Next, you’ll dive into the world of sustainable fish, preparing a quick and easy dish using the freshest catch of the day from our local supplier.

LUNCH

It’s time to take a well-deserved break and enjoy the delicious fish and vegetable dishes you’ve crafted this morning, with a choice of organic drinks to treat yourself to.

SESSION FOUR

After lunch, you’ll explore the rich flavours of lesser-known cuts of meat, crafting a delicious dish with hands-on guidance from your expert chef tutor.

SESSION FIVE

You’ll wrap up the day by creating a delicious dessert, uncovering the secrets to perfecting sweet treats and learning how to adapt recipes using seasonal ingredients.

DEPARTURE

You’ll have time to relax and chat with your fellow participants and the River Cottage team before heading back up the hill at 5 PM.
