Build a Cob Oven at River Cottage
Learn how to build your own cob oven using natural materials on this hands on one day course at River Cottage. Ideal for outdoor cooking enthusiasts, this workshop will guide you through each stage of creating a sustainable, wood fired oven from scratch.
You will work with clay, sand, and straw to construct a traditional cob oven, discovering the principles behind its design and how to replicate it at home. Once the building is complete, you will turn your attention to cooking, making your own wood fired pizza while enjoying views across the Devon countryside.
This course is perfect for anyone keen to explore low impact, outdoor cooking and leave with the confidence to build a cob oven in their own garden.
Please note: You will not be taking an oven home with you, but you will leave with all the skills to build one yourself.
Is this course suitable for me? This course isn’t suitable for those with wheat intolerances. We recommend this course for participants aged 12 and up. Under-16s must be accompanied by a paying adult. These guidelines are in place to ensure the safety, comfort, and enjoyment of all our guests.
