Mushroom Foraging Basics at River Cottage – Morning Half-Day Course

Start your day with a relaxed and informative morning mushroom foraging course at River Cottage. This half-day experience is perfect for beginners and nature enthusiasts who want to explore the world of fungi in a beautiful countryside setting.

Led by a knowledgeable foraging guide, you’ll take a gentle walk through the River Cottage grounds, learning to spot and identify common edible and medicinal mushrooms. While we won’t be harvesting for eating on this course, you’ll discover how to forage responsibly and understand the vital role fungi play in the ecosystem.

There’ll be time to ask all your mushroom-related questions, and you’ll leave with a River Cottage goodie bag filled with fresh mushrooms to enjoy at home.

This morning course is a lighter version of our full-day Ultimate Mushroom Foraging experience, offering a great introduction for those curious about fungi but short on time.

Arrive at River Cottage

You’ll be welcomed at the top of the hill by Nick, where your River Cottage experience begins.

Hydrate

Nick will prepare a fresh batch of mushroom tea for you to try. A unique way to begin your fungi journey.

Morning Forage

Head into the fields and woodlands surrounding River Cottage to learn how to identify mushrooms safely and responsibly, and discover the vital role fungi play in our ecosystem.

Departure

At the end of the session, you’ll have the chance to ask Nick any burning questions before heading off full of foraging inspiration.

Please Note

This event takes place outdoors, so please come prepared for the weather with appropriate clothing for wet or cold conditions. We also recommend sturdy footwear and long trousers to help protect against bites and ticks. The course involves walking over uneven terrain.
