Under the expert guidance of Gill Meller, author of the River Cottage Outdoor Cooking Handbook, this immersive one-day course will equip you with the skills and confidence to cook like a pro, using only fire and fresh ingredients. From building your own fire to creating mouth-watering dishes, youโ€™ll discover just how incredible outdoor cooking can be.

By the end of the day, youโ€™ll know how to plank-cook fish, create delicious veggie dishes over the flames, and even cook a perfectly tender lamb for supper. This course is perfect for anyone looking to elevate their outdoor cooking and experience the thrill of cooking with fire.

Is this course suitable for me?ย  Due to the varied content, this course isnโ€™t suitable for those with allergies or specific dietary requirements. However, we do offer other courses that cater to gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan diets. We recommend this course for participants aged 12 and up. Under-16s must be accompanied by a paying adult. These guidelines are in place to ensure the safety, comfort, and enjoyment of all our guests. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or need more information.

MAKE YOURSELF AT HOME

Youโ€™ll meet your host and start the day with a warm welcome, enjoying tea, coffee, and freshly baked treats straight from the kitchen.

SESSION ONE

Cook a delicious breakfast of field mushrooms, garlic, and fresh herbs on sourdough bread, all over your very own campfire.

SESSION TWO

Set a hearty stew simmering over the fire, slowly developing rich flavours to enjoy later in the day.

SESSION THREE

Bury a succulent lamb shoulder, stuffed with aromatic herbs, to slow-cook throughout the day, infusing it with incredible flavours.

SESSION FOUR

Now itโ€™s time to showcase vegetables, as you create vibrant and flavour-packed veggie dishes over your fire.

LUNCH

Enjoy a light lunch featuring the veggie dishes you've crafted, leaving plenty of room to enjoy all the delicious tasters throughout the day.

SESSION FIVE

Gill will demonstrate the art of plank cooking and clay-baking fish, teaching you unique techniques to create flavourful outdoor meals.

SESSION SIX

To wrap up the day, enjoy a sumptuous supper of pit-roasted lamb, paired with smoked cream and brandy truffles, expertly prepared by the River Cottage chefs. Youโ€™ll also have the chance to get your copy of Gillโ€™s book signed. You can bring your own along or purchase one on the day, and there will be time to ask him any burning questions too.

DEPARTURE

At 5 PM, itโ€™s time to head back to the car park, bringing a satisfying end to a day filled with outdoor cooking, new skills, and culinary exploration.
