Join us at River Cottage for a seasonal lunch

Join us for a truly seasonal dining experience at River Cottage, where our award-winning chefs create a daily menu inspired by the freshest ingredients from our garden, farm, and trusted local growers. Every dish celebrates the season’s best, ensuring no two lunches are ever the same.

You’ll dine in our beautiful 18th-century threshing barn, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the farm. Each course reflects our SLOW ethos, Seasonal, Local, Organic, and Wild, crafted with care to showcase the natural flavours of our region.

See a sample menu here, but please note that every experience is unique and shaped by the seasons. Our menus are finalised on the morning of each lunch, so we can use the very best ingredients available on the day.

Special themed Long Table Lunch dates:
25th January: Burns Night
15th March: Mother’s Day
5th April: Easter
21st June: Father’s Day

ARRIVE

You’ll be met at the top of the hill and begin your River Cottage experience with a 10-15 minute walk through the wonderful pathways down to the farm, so you can enjoy the stunning views of the valley. A Land Rover lift is available in poor weather and for those with mobility issues.

WELCOME

Head to the courtyard where you'll be greeted by our team, then have a wander around our kitchen garden before taking your seats in our threshing barn for a 1:00 pm start. Drinks will be available from our bar from 12:30 pm onwards. If the weather is challenging, these will be served in our award-winning Cookery School.

CHEF'S INTRODUCTION

As you settle in, your chef will introduce the menu and tell you more about our philosophy, the food’s provenance and how the dishes have been prepared.

MAIN EVENT

You’ll be treated to three courses of fantastic local and seasonal produce, much of it produced on our farm, planned on the day to showcase the freshest and the best.

TO FINISH

At the end of service feel free to take a stroll back up the hill to walk off the indulgent lunch or if you prefer, we can happily give you a ride in one of our farm Land Rovers.

DRINKS

We source our drinks as carefully as our food. Our extensive drinks list will be available for you with orders taken from the table throughout the lunch. This includes our own River Cottage range of organic Ciders, Beers and Kombuchas, and a carefully curated wine list of mostly organic and biodynamic wines. There’s always a seasonal cocktail or two on offer as well. If you want some direction from our team, we can help you pair drinks perfectly with the days’ menu. Do ask them when they come around to take your drinks orders.

  1. Christine

The meal was amazing but it was the friendliness and care from the staff that made the day memorable

  2. Joanna

We all said how much we liked each course. It was a lot of food, but not too much. I liked the story that was woven from the local land, local suppliers and what was in season back to curation of menu.

  3. Jeanette

Great food and all fresh and local, fabulous staff, we picked up plenty of tips

  4. Tina

Such a wonderful experience. The ambience was just perfect, with a sense of happiness and abundance!

  5. Maria

“If I could rate the food to 100, I would. Everything was absolutely delicious!”

  6. Tracey

“It was a fabulous experience. We wished we lived closer so we could attend more events! We have recommended to several friends and family that they look into future events.”

  7. Adelangers

“The waiting staff were amazing and took the time to chat to us all, being very patient and attentive to our friend who has trouble with speaking. A small detail which meant the world to him! All the food is seasonal and locally sourced, so today’s menu might never be served again!!

If you like food and you care about ethical food sourcing, definitely book a long table lunch at River Cottage!! We now plan on returning in other seasons to see what we get served then!!”

  8. Lucy

“I took my mum for a birthday surprise. We both had a fabulous time. Beautiful place, Friendly staff and amazing food. I have already recommended to friends.”

  9. Diana

“Our chef teacher was enthusiastic, friendly and very helpful and informed. I love cooking and I really enjoyed myself. However long you’ve been cooking you can always learn new things and the dishes we made were all delicious.”

  10. Francis

The long table is informal but pleasant and relaxed enough to focus properly on the food, which was stunning: beautifully prepared, lovely to look at and a pleasure to ‘interpret.’ Enjoyed the welcome/intro by Chiara Tomasoni. Short but good wine list although a fully dry cider would also be welcome.

“Mum and I have just enjoyed a fabulous lunch today.
Please give the chefs & kitchen staff and front of house our thanks for such a delicious meal and for the warm welcome. The whole team helped to make Mums
    birthday such a special day.”

Brilliant chef for the day, it was amazing thankyou, and really appreciate the hard work and effort that must go on behind the scenes everyday to organise all you do, as well as to do the day itself thankyou.
