About the Role

River Cottage is looking for a talented Chef (Chef de Partie level) to join our team at Park Farm.

This is a unique opportunity to work across our main HQ kitchen and the Kitchen & Stores Café, using the very best local, seasonal and responsibly sourced ingredients — much of which is grown or raised on the farm itself.

A River Cottage chef role is like no other. You’ll work with menus that change with the seasons, have creative freedom under the guidance of our Head Chef, and collaborate closely with local producers who share our values of sustainability, ethics and exceptional food provenance.

What We’re Looking For

  • A proactive, self-driven chef who thrives in a varied and multi-faceted environment
  • A passion for fresh, seasonal ingredients and developing culinary skills
  • Ability to run and manage a section during service to deliver high-quality dishes
  • Respectful, collaborative team player
  • Comfortable supporting and training new team members when required
  • Strong understanding of the River Cottage ethos and ability to communicate it
  • Reliable transport to our rural location (Axminster)

Responsibilities

Guest Experience

  • Run your section to deliver high-quality food efficiently and consistently
  • Communicate the River Cottage ethos to guests and colleagues

People

  • Work collaboratively across the kitchen
  • Support training of new team members when requested

Sales & Profitability

  • Record and reduce waste
  • Accept and check deliveries accurately
  • Maintain stock quality, rotation and levels

Practices & Compliance

  • Maintain high standards of hygiene, Health & Safety, and food safety
  • Complete all required due diligence and HACCP documentation
  • Follow all company policies and procedures
  • Clean as you go and maintain a safe working environment
  • Report any H&S concerns immediately
  • Uphold high standards of personal presentation and behaviour

Work Schedule

  • 48 hours per week
  • Day and evening shifts
  • Weekend availability required
  • Work location: In person at River Cottage HQ, Trinity Hill, Axminster
  • Salary: £32,000 per annum
