From the moment you arrive, you’ll be immersed in the warmth of the season. We kick things off with a cozy cocktail or mulled cider, served by our wood-fired braziers in the courtyard, setting the tone for the evening ahead.
Farm-to-Table Dining at its Best
Your first course features our home-made charcuterie, served with seasonal pickles and ferments, alongside sourdough bread freshly baked in our kitchen that day, paired with our own home-cultured butter. Afterward, our talented chefs take over, crafting a menu that highlights the finest local, seasonal ingredients. Known internationally for our innovative approach to farm-to-table dining, we follow a SLOW ethos, where ingredients are Seasonal, Local, Organic, and Wild. As you settle into our beautifully restored barn, your chef will introduce the story behind each dish and the carefully sourced ingredients that make it special.
From December to February, our feasts feature winter’s finest bounty, including home-grown vegetables like Jerusalem artichokes, celeriac, red cabbage, and kale. We often showcase English-grown grains and pulses from our friends at Hodmedod’s, along with our own home-made ferments and sauerkrauts, using produce directly from the farm. Our seafood selections are just as impressive, with the best (and most sustainable) of the season, such as off-shore mussels, Teign Estuary oysters, and dived scallops, as well as day-boat caught turbot, pollack, or bass.
The meat course could feature wild venison from local estates or our very own River Cottage pork from Oxford Sandy and Black pigs raised here on the farm. Alternatively, you may be served beef from Hugh’s North Devon cattle. Each meal can also include a course of organic cheese, perfectly ripened and served with home-made crackers, complemented by seasonal winter leaves or a unique house-made pickle.
To complete your meal, you can expect indulgent desserts like late-season apples, pears, or quinces, or perhaps an early rhubarb creation, often paired with a rich chocolate dish or a surprise ingredient from our winter garden.
